No property tax receipts in mail this year – Harris County, Texas

The Harris County Tax Office will not be mailing out receipts for property tax payments this year unless a taxpayer specifically requests one, the office announced this week.

Instead, in one of Tax Assessor-Collector Leo Vasquez‘s last official acts before he leaves office Monday, the office will make receipts available online at

Vasquez estimates that the office will save $200,000 by not mailing receipts for taxes paid on 1.5 million accounts. He also projects that the office will save $60,000 in ink merely by printing this year’s statements in black and white rather than the red, blue and black of previous years.

Taxpayers who still want a paper receipt can get one by calling 713-368-2000 or visiting the Tax information Center, 1001 Preston, 1st Floor, Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 4:45 PM.
